JOHOR BARU: THE Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar awarded his four children and the Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail’s consort, Che Puan Khaleeda Bustamam, with the Pangkat Pertama Darjah Mahkota Johor Yang Amat Mulia, in a ceremony held at Istana Bukit Serene yesterday.
During the ceremony that took about half an hour in full Johor royal tradition, the sultan’s daughter, Tunku Tun Johor Tunku Aminah, and his two sons, Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil and Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman received the Pangkat Pertama Darjah Mahkota Johor Yang Amat Mulia award, which was first introduced in 1886 by the 21st Sultan of Johor Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Daing Ibrahim.

Sultan Ibrahim also conferred the award to Tunku Ismail’s consort, Che Puan Khaleeda and his son, Tunku Abu Bakar. The award comes with the title Dato’ Sri Paduka Mahkota Johor (SPMJ) (Grand Commander).
The ruler’s other children, Tunku Ismail and Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris, were awarded the same title in the past. The Pangkat Pertama Darjah Mahkota Johor Yang Amat Mulia comes in three degrees.
Tunku Aminah, Tunku Abdul Jalil and Tunku Abdul Rahman had in the past received the Pangkat Kedua Darjah Mahkota Johor Yang Amat Mulia. Che Puan Khaleeda and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar received the award for the first time. The motto Kepada Allah Berserah (Unto God Resigned) is carved in Jawi on the award.
The award collar is made of gold and enamel shaped into a chain. Sultan Ibrahim said after the ceremony that he wanted to award his children and Che Puan Khaleeda with the awards prior to his coronation on March 23 at Istana Besar.
During the same ceremony, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin presented the ruler with the State Sword, which would be worn by Sultan Ibrahim during his coronation.
Sultan Ibrahim’s consort, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, and their sons, Tunku Ismail and Tunku Idris, also graced the event.
Present were Johor Council of the Royal Court president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli, the council’s Grand Chamberlain Datuk Mohamed Perang Musa and Grand Director of Audience Datuk Daing Malek Daing A. Rahman, and state secretary Datuk Ismail Karim, among others.
After the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim attended the fitting of the uniform he will wear during his coronation ceremony. The uniform, which was tailored by Datuk Jack M.K. Lee, is embedded with gold thread and barathea wool that took three months to complete.
